Phil Boron Memorial Centre (Bostock House)

Bostock House forms part of the heritage-listed former Woolston Park Hospital Complex, originally opened in 1865. Bostock House itself was one of two cottage wards opened in 1885.  It is oriented to face Ellerton Drive, although it is set back within extensive lawns. It is a substantial two-storeyed building of polychromatic brickwork, with a projecting bay topped by a gabled roof on the north elevation, with ground floor verandahs located to either side. A circular window is located in the gable end.  At the northern end of the building are two single-storeyed attached pavilions; one is five-sided like a large bay window, the second is square with a pyramid roof. The southern end has a single-storeyed extension with roof lanterns. A two-storeyed timber, enclosed verandah with skillion roof is located at the rear of the building.

Phil Boron was a Past President of the Rotary Club of Wynnum and Manly and at the time of his tragic death in 1998, he was a member of the Rotary Club of Capalaba. Phil’s wife Sandy and son Karl made a considerable donation to former District 9630's district funds from Phil’s estate. This, together with the thousands of volunteer hours from club members and the District team, and generous donations of materials from both Rotarians and companies known to Rotarians, made the District Project at “The Park” a reality.
