Shelterbox Giving Day -  A Personal Message from DGN Paul Roger
It would be great to see District 9620 win the District Challenge in supporting the ShelterBox Giving Day this week.
Each donation this week will be matched by other anonymous donors!

As you know ShelterBox and Rotary are partners in disaster relief, and it is my passion, and privilege to be Chair of ShelterBox Australia.

This World Human Rights Day (Friday 10th December) all Rotarians and Rotary clubs can act by taking part in the ShelterBox Australia Annual Giving Day District Challenge.

The challenge is simple, we as a district encourage all our clubs and individual members to support the Giving Day. No matter how large or small, every donation makes a difference in providing shelter to families worldwide.  For example if each individual Rotarian in our District donated just $10, imaging the amount that would be raised.

IT IS EASY TO DONATE. Click on any of the links in this article, and then follow the link on the left of the page to see the leader board and donate. You can see details of district 9620's contribution by clicking on our district on that page.

With our District members and our clubs supporting this Human Rights Day, we can make a significant contribution a world where no family goes without a roof over their heads after being displace by a disaster.

More details are at the attached link Donating on behalf of District 9620 is done by clicking on the District number in the list.

If we try just a little harder, we may see our District win the Australian District challenge.  We are currently coming second, but a lot will change this week.

Also important to note, tax receipts are provided, and each donation this week will be matched by other anonymous donors.

Calling for Volunteers - NYSF 2022
National Youth Science Forum volunteering for the 2022 program

Coming up in 2022, Brisbane is going to be hosting one of the in person NYSF programs from the 17th to 25th of January 2022. As such, I'm looking for people who are interested in volunteering across this time. Volunteering will usually involve accompanying a group of students to a science related visit. The visits are usually really interesting and Brisbane visits have involved trips like going to sea world to see the Sea jellies, visiting the Australian Institute for Biotechnology and Nanoengineering, Queensland Brain Institute, Centre for Advanced Imaging, visiting a coffee roaster to see the coffee roasting process, coding robots with Micromelon robotics, among many others. You can volunteer for as many or as few visits as you like. If you are interested, please use the contact button below and I will contact you closer to the date to check your availability.

Classes XX and XIX Starting in July 2022 - Call for Counsellors
Rotary Peace Fellow Counsellors are required for Class XX together with those fellows from Class XIX who interrupted or deferred their studies during 2021 due to COVID-19. It is anticipated that the fellows will arrive during late June or early July 2022 to start classes on Monday 25th July 2022.

The Rotary Foundation mandates that Counsellors attend Cultural Sensitivity Training, and this has been scheduled for Saturday 7th May 2022.

Peace Fellows are scheduled to attend a Rotary Foundation Information Day and Orientation to District 9620 at District Headquarters, Wacol on Sunday 24th July 2022 (12 noon – 3:30 pm commencing with lunch).  They are often supported on this occasion by their counsellors.

Being a counsellor is an extremely rewarding experience and an opportunity to meet these Fellows from many other countries of the world. The average age of our Peace Fellows is 30+ years and they have varied but interesting backgrounds in their previous field of work. They are only at the Rotary peace Centre for 18 months less University breaks.

Those interested can contact the district Coordinator or one of the liaisons using the contact links on the Peace and Conflict Studies Page.

More information can be found in the invitation document by clicking on the button below.

How to get your news on the district Facebook page
About this e-bulletin
Welcome to the Gist! Rather than send multiple messages per week to club officers in the hope that they will channel your interests and pass on what is important to you, we will be sending one digest email per week using the Clubrunner platform which lists new things in the top section, and reminders of old news in the bottom section. That way, you only need to scan the top half of one email per week to get the Gist, and everyone gets the Gist!

This e-bulletin is published by your District Administrator and Webmaster to let Rotarians and any other subscribers know about what is happening in the district.

Important announcements and event notices will run once only in the "Breaking News" section, and events will continue to be published down below in the "Event Reminders" section until the event has passed.

Clubs are encouraged to send us news of upcoming events that they think members of other clubs might be interested in attending. A good event notice might include some or all of the following. It must be actionable in some way if it is to have an impact.
  • Teaser text (max: 200 words)
  • Follow-on text (optional)
  • An image to catch the eye (could be a flyer image)
  • Information on when, where
  • Contact for the event (must be a Rotarian or Rotaractor within the district)
  • Information on how to register interest if applicable. (A link is best, but an email or phone number is also OK)

Where appropriate, events will also be entered into the district calendar and displayed on the website.

If you are not an active or honorary Rotarian in district 9620, or you would like this to be delivered to a different mailbox from your Rotary primary email address, you can click on the subscribe link below to add an address to the database of recipients.

Please send event info to:  gist@rotary9620.org

We are always interested in hearing your feedback and suggestions on this.
